ZRP urges parents and schools to prioritize children's safety

Tatenda Matambo The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing to parents, guardians, school authorities and the general public to prioritize safety and security of the children as schools open for a new term. The safety of the children during movements to and from school to is of paramount importance and encouraged transport operators to make sure that their vehicles are fit to transport children before transporting them to schools. “Drivers should exercise cation, avoid speeding and above all comply with all road rules and regulations to prevent road traffic accidents ,”said ZRP. The police also advises parents and schools to ensure that learners do not travel at night as this can expose them to various risk including road traffic accidents. School authorities are advised to deposit school fees and tuition related costs at financial institutions. “This precautionary measure will help minimize the risk of robbery and theft as large sums of cash at school will as attract criminal attention, ”ZRP. Criminals often gather information from individuals close to school authorities and staff ending up exploiting this information to target schools.
