ZPCS Manicaland commemorates Prison Day.
The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Manicaland commemorated prison day, a celebration of rehabilitation,reform and national progress this week.
In her welcoming remarks the Officer Commanding Manicaland Province Commissioner Spetosomusa Chinobva said the commemorations epitomize ZPCS's enduring commitment to fulfiling its constitutional mandate to incarcerated offenders by rehabilitating and reintergrating them back into society.
''This day serves as a reminder of our duty to raise awareness about life behind the walls and the importance of prioritizing rehabilitation over punishment,this symbolizes our shared belief that every person regardless of their past deserves a second chance,''she said. The Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza highlited that the transformation of ZPCS from a punitive system to a development oriented correctional model marks a milestone in Zimbabwe's progress.
The rebranding from the ZImbabwe Prison Service [ZPS] to the Zimbabwe Prisons and correctional Services [ZPCS] symbolized a fundamental philosophical shift that places human dignity,rehabilitation,innovation and inclusivity at the heart of correctional work,''he added. The Minister said the ZPCS Builiding Brigades should be fully utilized across the province to assist government infrastructure programs under Vision 2030 including the construction of schools,clinics,staff housing and other public facilities.
''The ZPCS Builing Brigades not only help build the nation but also generate internal revenue for ZPCS while equipping inmates with practical,certified skills in construction and allied trades. This is a practical exampe of rehabilitation efforts that empowers individuals and strengthens communities simultaneously,''he said.
This event brought together inmates,officers,govement officials and community members in a celebration of rehabilitation,transfomation and unity in an open enviroment.The commemorations were spiced by a wide range of entermainment activities for the whole family that included music and dance,parade displays, and dog displays.
