Still early for PSL championship talk - Tapera
Manica Diamonds, who finished second to Madamburo formally known as Ngezi Platinum Stars last season are three points behind current log leader's Fc Platinum but Jairos Tapera who is at the helm of Manica Diamonds technical team believes that it's still too early to talk of PSL championship.
After 17 first round of matches Gem Boys have amassed 32 points, three points behind log leader's FC Platinum who shared spoils with TelOne Fc in their last crucial encounter at Bata stadium.
Tapera, who is also the current interim head coach of Zimbabwe's national team believes that it's still too early to heighten talks of championship clinch amid a tight share of points in the top six.
"Championship is a marathon it's still very early to ascertain championship clinch," responded Tapera when quizzed on FC Platinum’s form and their chance of taking the trophy back to Zvishavane this time around.
This season Manica Diamonds bolsters depth in all department's following their acquisition of credible player's pre 2024 season.
Tapera commended good organization from the team's departments, both technical and executive on the job they have done to propel the Gem Boy's to success.
"I can say the secret behind the success of the team is good support and organization from the executive extending to the technical team. Player identification department also added to the success of the team because of the good talent they spot," added Tapera.
Manica Diamonds shared spoils with Bulawayo Chief's in a nil all deadlock at Luveve last week. With a 10-day break already underway Tapera is happy with his squad and believes that there is need to work with the available player's and get better result's.
"Considering the window period and our squad I can say that we are happy with the squad we have we just need to keep on improving," said Zimbabwe national team interim gaffer.
Meanwhile Ngezi Platinum who have shown blistering pace are third on the log with a total of 30 points thanks to Obriel Chirinda who has been scoring for fun since his debut Ngezi outing against Herentials at Rufaro stadium.
Tonderayi Ndiraya coached side Simba Bhora are also in the contending foil with 30 points on the deck.
It's battle for survival in the red zone between Hwange, TelOne, Arenel Movers and Chegutu Pirates.
