Job Sikhala released from prison
Job Sikhala has spent about 595 days in prison which is close to two years at Chikurubi Maximum Prison and his release comes after the court sentenced him together with Godfrey Sithole. Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole handed wholly suspended 2 year jail sentences following convictions for incitement to commit public violence. Sikhala was denied bail several times in a move that is believed to have been orchestrated by ZANU PF in the spirit to deny him justice. The release of Sikhala comes when his party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is at rock bottom marred by political divisions that have destroyed the party. Sengezo Tshabangu is at the middle of this political divisions as the self-appointed interim secretary general. The CCC National Standing Committee held an extraordinary meeting on Monday 29 January 2024 where the meeting was chaired by Welshman Ncube. It is now clear that Welshman Ncube was the one behind Sengezo Tshabangu as he said he was appointed by leadership. The fate of CCC is going to be known when Job Sikhala’s intentions with the party are out there in public. He has just come out of prison and his mind is not yet decided whether he will stay at CCC or eventually leave the party. CCC has accepted resignations of Amos Chibaya, Fadzai Mahere and Gift Siziba in the National Standing Committee. The mass resignations come after Nelson Chamisa left the party last week when he said he no longer has anything to do with CCC. It is up to Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole to decide whether they remain at CCC or join the Chamisa train and form another political party. A new political party comes to correct the current political crisis that is upon Zimbabwe. More recently people have been in solidarity with Job Sikhala since he was incarcerated and they formed the Job Sikhala Solidarity Movement and members were seen at court sessions since he was jailed in June 2022.
