China offers Zim students lifeline
Harare Polytechnic has partnered with China's XinGanglian and Shaanxi Vocational Engineering College in a bid to expand tech exchange and education engagements.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed on June 19, 2024 with the aim of advancing mutual benefit between Zimbabwe and China.
The partnership was lauded by the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education Innovation Science and Technology Development, Professor Dr. Amon Murwira.
In a speech read by Permanent Secretary Professor Fanuel Tagwira, the minister expressed gratitude for the new development, emphasizing its potential to enhance educational and technological exchange between Harare Polytechnic and the polytechnic in Shanxi Province, China.
As part of the partnership, a scholarship program has been established, with 60 Harare Polytechnic students specializing in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy Engineering, and Electrical Engineering set to receive full scholarships to study in China.
Dr. Eng. T. Mudondo expressed excitement about the opportunity, noting that the selected students will study in China for 18 months.
Harare Polytechnic Principal Eng T. Mudondo was elated with collaboration citing that students will benefit from capacity building, technology transfer, and the facilitation of faculty exchanges.
The conglomerate between Harare Polytechnic and the polytechnics in China is poised to drive innovation, research, and capacity building, ultimately contributing to the advancement of technical education and technology transfer between Zimbabwe and China.
This collaboration represents a significant step towards fostering international cooperation in education and technology, with the potential to yield far-reaching benefits for both countries.
