Binga Prison taps into local tourism
ZPCS arm in Binga has embarked on a move to tap into local resources to showcase Inmate Artistry in the long run boosting Zimbabwe's Tourism.
In recent years Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services has taken a proactive approach to leverage this natural bounty introducing initiatives that not only benefit inmates but also contribute to the region's growing tourism landscape.
Chief Correctional Officer Bonolo Ndlovu Acting Officer in Charge Binga Prison said Binga is known for its stunning sand beach a popular destination for fishing, boating and cultural immersion.
‘We've realised the immense potential that Binga holds not just for the local community but for the entire country,'' said Ndlovu.
By empowering our inmates to showcase their artistic talents and tap into area's rich resources we're not only providing them with valuable skills and opportunities but also attracting more visitors to this incredible destination,’ said Ndlovu.
He went on to say that another initiative is the introduction of kapenta fish farming , by establishing their own kapenta farming operations the prison's not only ensuring a reliable source of nutrition for the inmates but also providing them with valuable training in aquaculture and fish processing.
‘Our inmates are not only learning the intricate techniques of kapenta farming but they're also honing their skills manufacturing fishing rings and other equipment ,''said Ndlovu.
This not only keeps them engaged and productive but also equips them with practical skills that they can use to support themselves and communities upon release, ‘he said.
ZPCS has also acquired a stand where the organisation plans to build chalets, correctional offices and inmates were captured clearing the land preparation for the construction of the chalets, which will further enhance the tourism offerings in Binga.
