A week to remember for Chikurubi maximum prison inmates

The 19th of August was a day to remember for Chikurubi Maximum Prison as family and friends spent a well-deserved day with inmates as arranged by the responsible authority Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS). The convergence of inmates and relatives/friends lasted for 6 days from the 19th to the 25th. In a statement ZPCS National Public Relations Officer Meya Khanyezi said they want to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone so all adults must produce positive identification documents. ''To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone all adults must produce proper identification documents, ‘said Assistant Commissioner Khanyenzi. He went on to say that there is a maximum of 10 visitors per inmate per day and also fruits brought from home must be washed under running water, food cooked from home will not be allowed. ''A maximum of 10 visitors per inmate will be allowed per day, fruits must be washed under running chlorinated water and no cooked food from home will be accepted however stations will be accepted however stations will prepare food for sale at affordable prices under proper hygienic standards, ‘he said. He however said visitors are not allowed to bring alcohol, any sharp object and visitors are not allowed to take pictures from Prisons walls. ''Visitors are not allowed to bring alcohol or any other drugs, no one is allowed to bring contraband, knives, hacksaw blades or any other sharp objects, visitors are also not allowed to take pictures of Prison walls or any infrastructure besides themselves t designated areas, ‘said Assistant Commissioner Khanyezi.
Inmates visits are done to maintain a bond between felons and relatives outside.
