A towering figure geared to transform prison systems – Hamuleya pays tribute to the late and former ZPCS Commissioner General Paradzai Zimondi

Namibia Correctional Service Commissioner General Rapheal Hamunyela paid tribute to the late Commissioner General Paradzai Willings Zimondi this week at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.

Hamuleya applauded the late Gen. Zimondi’s citing that he played a major role not only in Zimbabwe but in the entire SADC region.

He was a towering figure who played a significant role in transforming prisons systems not only in Zimbabwe but in the entire SADC region, ‘said General Hamunyela.

After laying a wreath at the Tomb of the unknown soldier he proceeded to lay wreath at the grave of the late General Paradzai Zimondi he said as correctional institutions in the SADC region they learned a lot from him.

As correctional institutions in the SADC region, we learned a lot from him he was a pioneer in shifting prisons systems from the punitive ideology to the correction systems, ‘said General Hamunyela.

He however said he was saddened by the death of Commissioner General Paradzai Willings Zimondi and would have loved to attend his funeral but circumstances at the time didn't permit him.

I was quite shocked and saddened by his untimely death and would have liked to attend his funeral and burial but circumstances at the time didn't permit me to do so and today as i pay my last respect to my dear departed brother, a huge burden has been lifted of my shoulders as i have been able to properly say goodbye to him and see his final resting place,'' he said.

Commissioner General Hamunyela was accompanied to the National shrine by ZPCS Deputy Commissioner General S. Mpofu, MC Manhivi and the late Commissioner General Zimondi's sister Netsai Zimondi.
